Ducted Evaporative Air Conditioning systems are a cost effective way of cooling your home or office. Evaporative air conditioning in Melbourne has become a viable and popular option of ducted air conditioning and is one of our specialties at Efficient Air.

How Does It Work?

Evaporative cooling units are installed within your roof which connects to channels that extend to each room in your home.

They work by drawing warm air from outside through a filter. The evaporative cooling system draws outdoor air via a ventilator motor, which then chills the air as it passes through the cooled water pads which have water circulating through them via a pump and water tank loop. By evaporating the water to lower the temperature in each room, evaporative cooling keeps the air inside cool, fresh and clean.

Is Evaporative Cooling Installation Right for Me?

While installing an evaporative cooling unit in your roof can be costly, the benefits of such a system cannot be overlooked.

Firstly, they are very cost effective. You can save up to 90% on energy bills using an evaporative system when compared to a reverse cycle air conditioner. Furthermore, rather than using recycled air, evaporative coolers use fresh outdoor air to cool your home, meaning a massive decrease in CO2 emissions.

There are some downsides, however. While evaporative cooling is very cost efficient to run, they are not as effective as other types of cooling such as ducted refrigerated air conditioning.

They tend to work best in dry environments as a more humid environment slows down the rate of evaporation which can make them very ineffective.

Value for Money

Installing any ducted cooling system can be initially costly, however since evaporative cooling simply relies on evaporation with the assistance of a pump and a fan, running costs for such a system are significantly lower than alternatives such as reverse cycle air conditioning. Looking at the graph above very clearly displays it’s cost efficiency.

A second consideration when thinking about price would be service and maintenance. This is where evaporative cooling shines, as the system is very simple, it requires very low maintenance which means less problems and less servicing costs.

However, also keep in mind as mentioned previously, evaporative air conditioning is not as effective at cooling a space as alternatives and works best in dryer environments, so it is a matter of personal preference weighed with cost.

Like all ducted systems, ducted evaporative air conditioning has the benefit of being a visually appealing cooling solution.

While the main unit is hidden out of the way in your ceiling, the only evidence left behind are discreet grills or vents located in your ceiling or walls, making evaporative cooling a great choice for the minimalist.

Along with their unobtrusive design, the simple build of an evaporative cooling system means there is little to no noise while it is running.
